» August: PLUG BBQ & Utah Open Source Conference

Date: August 2nd, 2008
Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Location: Scera Park, Red Pavilion

PLUG:

We had intended to hold our annual PLUG BBQ in July, but schedules didn't quite work out. Instead August promises to be an open source packed month. This year the BBQ is sponsored by the Utah Open Source Foundation. We really appreciate their willingness to make this event possible. The timing is open. You can show up as early as 9am, and the next group doesn't have a reservation until 4pm. Any and all are invited, including family & kids.

The BBQ will be a totally open format. Traditionally we have used it as an excuse to bring your spare computer hardware and parts swap/give-away with others. Whatever is left usually ends up in the dumpster, so don't let good gear go to waste! If you'd like to show up and take whatever is left to a recycling/reuse center, that would be wonderful. Please check out the mailing list (or the archives) for further details regarding this event.

As a reminder, August 28th-30th is the Utah Open Source Conference. If you are not planning on attending this event, we highly encourage you to change your plans. If you are a beginner, or a seasoned professional, you will get value out of this conference.

This is year two for UTOSC and we're growing like crazy! UTOSC 2008 will be held August 28 - 30 @ Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, Utah

The simple idea is that we get together for 2-4 days/evenings during the spring/summer of each year to discuss cool new Open Source concepts as well as recognize those of us who are true geeks in the real sense of the word. This conference will be by, for and about Utah Open Source.

Date: Saturday, June 16th
Time: 6pm-9pm (those setting up be there at 5:30pm)
Address: City Center Park, 100 North 300 East, Orem
Pavilion: Senior Citizens Pavilion (cause we are all old, or something)

Notes: 30 tables, 300 person capacity, 4 grills, drinking fountain, right next to a playground for the kids (it should accommodate quite a few kids). PLUG will do its best to bring the extras, we will have some hot dogs available for the kids as well.
Power: 2 outlets at 20 amps each. We need to be careful not to blow the circuit because they will not send someone to reset it.

General Directions: Head east on Center street in Orem. Turn left on 400 E, then left on 100N. The pavilion is on the left. There is parking there that should accommodate our group, but it would be helpful if you carpooled if possible.

Bring your spare computer parts, something to throw on the grill, a favorite beverage, and your spirit for fun!
